Frequently Asked Questions

To start, just give me a call or send an e-mail, and let me know what you're interested in.

The very first thing I will want to do is get a general understanding of your requirements, in order to make sure that I am a good fit. I will never accept work for which I am unqualified, or for which I do not have sufficient time (due to other commitments.)

The next step is to determine how you would like to engage my services. An important consideration is how concrete your requirements are, and how much of my time is needed.

  • If you are in the early planning stages of a project, or are otherwise unsure of your needs, then it is probably best to to acquire my services on a retainer basis. This is often the quickest and easiest way to get started, as you are essentially buying a bucket of time that can then be used however you want, whenever you want. You simply sign a retainer agreement and deposit funds (which can be done online) - that's it. I will then bill my hours against the retainer, which can be refilled as needed. With a retainer, you are guaranteed a certain amount of my time each week or month (depending on the specific terms of our agreement.)
  • If you want to supplement an existing, on-going project, then you may want to simply contract my services at a pre-determined commitment level (such as part-time or full-time) for the duration of your project. In this case, I will bill you bi-weekly for hours worked at our negotiated rate.
  • Alternatively, I can offer a fixed price bid for all of my work on your project. With this option, you know your costs up-front. This is a good choice if most or all of the work will be performed by me. Note, though, that your requirements will need to be firm in order to go this route.
  • Lastly, for short-term engagements, you may want to opt for a straight hourly arrangement. The primary disadvantage of this approach is that each engagement must be scheduled independently. For short-term situations where the entire scope of my involvement can be counted in hours or days, this may be the most straightforward approach. In contrast, with a retainer, you are buying a bucket of my time, and you are guaranteed that you will be able to use that time as needed on a weekly or monthly basis.

Please note that I am flexible, and can usually accommodate other arrangements as needed; just ask.

Also, I will be happy to oblige any particular legal requirements (such as Non-Disclosure Agreements) that you may need. Your confidentiality is of my utmost concern.
